NGF Crisis : Video footage confirms Governor Rotimi Amaechi defeated Jonah Jang

The Punch reports:

A video, which was shown on Sahara reporters, has confirmed that election of the Nigeria Governors Forum, which was held in Abuja on Friday, was conclusive

The video, which was apparently recorded by one of the governors, showed the Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan as an agent in the counting of the votes.

The governor had admitted being the agent for the two governors, who ran for the office of the chairman.

The Director General of the NGF, Mr. Asishana Okauru, served as the Returning Officer for the election.

After the voting, Okauru first counted the number of ballot papers, which tallied with the number of voters (governors) present on the occasion.

After the counting, some governors shouted “correct” while others also clapped.

The result of the counting showed that there were 35 ballot papers, which indicated that one of the governors was absent.

Okauru then proceeded to count the number of votes recorded for the incumbent chairman of the Forum, and the Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi.

He recorded 19 votes.

The Returning Officer then proceeded to count the votes of his rival, who is also the Governor of Plateau State, Mr. Jonah Jang, who recorded 16 votes.

Saturday PUNCH had reported that when some of the supporters of Jang realised that he had lost the election, they hurriedly left the venue of the election, saying there was no election.

Meanwhile, Vice President Namadi Sambo is billed to open the secretariat of the faction of the Forum led by Jang.

The secretariat is located at Alvan Ikoku Street, Maitama, Abuja.

The administrator designate of the factional secretariat, Mr. Osaro Onaiwu, confirmed the story in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Tuesday.

Onaiwu said apart from Sambo, leaders of political parties would be invited to attend the event.

He said, “We are inviting the leaders of all the political parties like the Peoples Democratic Party, Action Congress of Nigeria, All Nigeria Peoples Party, All Progressive Grand Alliance, Labour Party and Congress for Progressive Change for the event.

“We are also inviting all the governors, including the Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi.”
