This Man Puts Fireworks on Steroid
Ahmed Essam was not always a huge act, he got his early start by adding fireworks affects to Egyptian concert which helped take concerts to the next level as before his work, concerts were just a mic, a star and a band...nothing else. Ahmed comes in he adds the lights and engineers the fireworks shows adding them to the stage. Mohammad Mounir has been one of his biggest fans, in a way helping him launch his fired up career.

Elie Mass'oud: Arabic Santa Clause
Funny music video that will be appreciated by the young and the old as it celebrates the best of both worlds. Expect to see a load of senior citizens and grandchildren. The music feel like a Church choir or a music class. I like the song and welcome the singer who was able to pull off one of the coolest Arabic songs who reminds us of the Lebanese music in the 60s and 70s.

Ban Layal Abboud Just Like Katy Perry?
Layal Abboud - El Deny Welad / ليال عبود - الدني ولاد
Few weeks ago popular Katy Perry appearance on Sesame Street was censored due to her prominent breasts. Obviously this was very controversial and funny at the same time. But this week, the Arab viewers had to put up with a new music video made for children.
A lead female singer Layal makes a music video for kids and you can guess her boobs are all over this music video.
Dare I to say Arabs are a bit more liberal than Americans when it comes to children music. Maybe that's what passes fro family entertainment, the kids get the song and the grown up can start at.....
I am not sure who should be more ashamed the Arabs or the Americans, but I know the female singers have nothing to be ashamed of.

Terrorists Not Pop Stars Get Visas
By Hanitizer
A rather odd news story appeared today.
Maryam Faris, possibly the hottest Lebanese star of the year won’t be coming to America this month. Maryam was supposed to perform In Las Vegas concert this Saturday, but that won’t be happening she had visa issues. Maryam was not able to get work visa to cover her and her bands to entertain you here in America. I am certain this is not an unusual thing and many other stars have had issues getting work visas to perform legally in America. Yes, this could also be a PR spin to cover for the real story, maybe she is not being paid enough or not treated right by the promoters.
But I think the issue here is if the visa denial or delays are real, we need a change and we need it now. I know some might have been intimated by her curvy dance moves–the kind that terrorizes you. She also makes akilling in the show biz since the productions of her concerts been daubed as a blast. But I am sure none of that was going thought the States Department’s officer’s head as he denied them their visas and just like millions of Americans, Maryam is out of a job. So there you have it, Maryam and her band won’t be stimulating the Las Vegas economy.
Maryam Faris was part of the concert in which Amr Diab will be the headliner. Amr Diab, the biggest and perhaps most popular singer in the Arab world will be performing in Las Vegas this October 16th in the Grand Arena at MGM. This concert has been in the works for several months now and many fans have already bought their tickets for the concert to see their star live. I am guessing Amr Diab will do just fine to electrify his fans who will be coming from all over the West Coast to see him. The concert promoters might even be able find a plan b replacement to save the day, it has been done before.
It’s not like she moonlights as a terrorist! As for her band members, what a better cover for an Al-Qaeda (the base) extremists than to be a Al-Qaeda (base) player performing in the sin city for an risque intoxicated and buzzed crowd!
would you have given Maryam a visa?

Arabic Music Videos I am Not Thankful for
Arabic Music Videos I am Not Thankful for
I do not think these videos leave anything for MTV and other western entertainment outlets, in a way by replicating European music and American styles, Arabic music is in danger of losing its voice. Just in time for Thanksgiving to remind us of things we are Not Thankful for. I will let you be the judge of that by watching those steamy Arabic music videos so enough is said, let the Khazwa begi.
Granted, those are all good looking Arab females.....but the level of their art and music is the one I am questioning.

Arabic Music Videos I am Not Thankful for

It’s amazing how progressive Arab Music videos have gotten. I am impressed whenever a Westerner sees those music videos, they are shocking by how scandalous they are. Look, I am not complaining, these ladies are good looking and know how to “work” their fans by working what they’ve got it. For this stuff to be shown on public TV during peak time, is a problem. So I guess I wasn’t surprised to see during my my trip to Egypt and Gaza that no one watches music videos anymore. When I asked few people about their choice of boycotting music videos, the answer was similar, “they have gotten trashy”

The Lebanese Army Dances to the Tunes of Najwa Karam
So if you are planning a trip there, make sure you practice your debka moves to the beat of this lovely song. and if you are getting married, you better get used to this song playing over and over because it’s a Najwa son. OK, I am a fan of Najwa and here is the link for her song, music video has not been released yet. One thing for sure Najwa is a very proude Lebanese who remains just about the only current Lebanese signer only to sing in the Lebanese dialect.
I guess the Lebanese army got a lot of time on their hand, but again this might be a good publicity and recruitment attempt so eat your hear American troops singing Lady Gaga, our troops are singing Najwa.

The Latest in Arabic Music, Spring Update
Many Arabic songs have been released the past few months, it is not the summer yet, as most Arab stars are holding out on releasing their albums and much anticipated songs. Here is an update on the latest hits and misses.
A number of Arab singers make a song for Palestine, اوبريت في طريقك يافلسطين – ملايين translated on the way to Palestine, I like a number of the singers in this large production, but to me it seems that the song tells the Palestinians to go get themselves killed while the stars of this song party it up safely in their home countries. Thank you guys for this song, but it takes more than a song.
Popular Arabic show “Star Academy” season 7 is out and there are a number of promising stars from different Arabic countries, when the star are not making the news in manufactured scandals, some make good songs. Many contestants now do songs in English, like Arabis is not good enough anymore. Here is one contetant that has what it takes voice wise.
Want to know why Egypt is awesome? Here is a powerful song by Loai, Egyptian star, the song played in a popular movie about an Egyptian soccer star who makes it big and helps bring cheers to the common man and woman in Egypt. I really like this song, it makes me think of home.
Ever wondered if there is an Arabic Lady Gaga, the search is over we found her. Carol Saqer, Lebanese singer that makes serious songs with mature music themes and she has all the stage enrgey that can rival Lady Gaga–no she won’t show you as much skin. But here is Carol, the Arabian Lady Gaga.
Who did what? Not sure what to make of this guy, but he seems like he is from LA, but I think he is from Morocco, there are lot of babes in his music video, I have no idea what he is singing about.
Meet Abu Leef, Egypt’s newest sensation singing about King Kong, Facebook, breakups, kids, passports, and other obscure subjects. He is the number 1 selling singer in Egypt now. I am not sure but I like his King Kong song where he is telling his girl he is not a metro man as he thinks he is King Kong and he can play Ping Pon with his hands tied to his back.
Rajaa sings about mothers and she managed to make an awesome comeback as she has been getting less songs and less publicity, it’s a actually a good songs that came to celebrate motherhood. March 21, is the day most Arab countries celebrate mother’s day.
Remember the 90s? then you would know Pascal Mashalani, the Lebanese beauty and former Miss Lebanon is trying to organize a come back, she has failed to resurrect her appeal for a decade now, she is still popular in North Africa, maybe her new song will succeed in giving her some air time?
A Tunisian star that does an Album in the Gulf accent and pull it of? Here is Latifa’s latest song Kol Wahed in the Khaliji accent. Look I like Latifa and I like how outspoken she is about her support for Palestine and Iraq, but not sure if I am ready to see her doing Khaliji yet.
The saddest Arabic song by the happiest guy Joseph Attieh, the young Lebanses singer releases an album in that album he has Mahmoum (Preoccupied) among other songs. People celebrate his song and the music video serves the song.
I like Carol Samaha and no surprise that I also enjoy her latest music video, Carols and her team knows to create an experience for each and every song she makes. It’s good to know that she is the busiest Arabic singer at this moment as her concerts are on demand in the Gulf, Morocco, Egypt, and her home country Lebanon. Carol also is doing a lot of charity work
OK, a new Egyptian singer that has some fans, I am not too sure if he can stand out in the crowd, but for now he seems to be doing fine. Here is Haitham Nabil
Rashid Al Faris gives us the most romantic Arab song in a long time, maybe it’s the always energized and Hijab wraing UAE born female director that stood behind the scenes and made sure to capture the spirit of the song instead of making the song a sidekick to a mediocre music video. I showed this clip to an all-American female freind of mine and she said, “Why do they always make the white girl look like a jerk?” I thought that was not the impression I was looking for. I enjoy both the song and mellow music video. Rashid reminds of of Keane
Yara, the Lebanese singer released her much anticipated music video that everybody literary has been waiting for. The music of the 30s have never been hotter, I do not thing any Arab singer has been able to use that sort of music and put out a good show, no not since Fairouz. Yara insists that she is the best female Arabic singer who respects her fans and her profession. She is the ultimate good girl as she has never used her skin to get ahead….she only uses her voice and her natural charisma and beauty.
Sameera Saed, the Moroccan star and hit maker has been making hits since the 80s still got it…she is sort of our Madona, here watch her on stage as she performs her latest hit. I cannot wait to listen to Sameera’s latest album due this summer. I bow in the presence of relentless musicians who give the young stars a good run for their money.

Sketchy Arabic Music Videos, Oh Boy!
Like billions of people I enjoy a good song and love a good beat. A music video for a song that I happen to like is always a treat. In the past week, a number of new Arabic music videos have been released to be seen by all either on the small screen in an Arabic home or a computer monitor somewhere on Youtube. I give you a the latest troublesome music videos coming to us from Arabia, feel free to disagree with me, but for a reason or two I feel compelled to share those music videos with you.
Jad Choueiri – Ghaly / جاد شويري – غالي
The Lebanese music producer, singer, weirdo takes a page of Perez Hilton and drives in the back of a truck in the streets of Lebanon attempting to make wiping imaginary air windows cool again. I thought they guy will disappear after his most famous flop of a song Funky Arab went nowhere. To his credit Jad makes very cool logos, I doubt however that those shades will be popular anywhere anytime soon.
Khaled Selim – Ad’y Aleik / خالد سليم – أدعي عليك
Khaled Selim, the hard working and hard partying Arab singer made a great comeback album that was a hit with his fans and even his loudest critics. Singing a number of awesome Arabic song, a pleasant song in Spanish another hit song in English “Desert Queen”. When it came to making a music video, Khaled did well by not hiring a number of naked ladies to make him look like a turd. He wanted to make a song where he is in the center. When I first reviewed the music video, I was not sure what o make of it, but then I saw it again and seeing Khaled touching himself and acting like he is about to enter the ring to punch Mr. T in the face confused me. I really like the song, it is one of my favorite summer songs so far, I and a number of female bloggers for Kabobfest feel uneasy about it.
Sandy – Ebn Garetna / ساندي – إبن جارتنا
So you know those dirty old men who have something for little girls? Here is a song that was made to make them feel better. The dazzling Egyptians beauty Sandy is not stranger to making music videos with skimpy outfits. What is sup with that Three scope Ice cream skewers Sandy? The director seems to have Sandy’s permission to flaunt her body to the horny Middle Eastern man with an internet connection. Maybe Sandy is trying to get people to get a faster internet speed so that can have a better viewing experience. Also if you have a minute read the viewers comments. Sandy’s look and colors reminds me of those crazy Japaneses cartoons, I hope she makes it big there.
MoHammED IsKanDaR – JeMhourYet AlbY محمد اسكندر جمهورية قلبي
Lebanon has seen relatively four peaceful years now, but this singer wanted to change that.A song that many Lebanese feminists felt was degrading to women. The song is really cool and it seems to be on its way to be this Summer’s hottest song. The singer’s son Faris, a popular lyricist wrote this song in which his dad sings to his wife urging her to quit her job and allow him to pamper her at home. He also says your job is my heart, my feelings and my love…it’s enough you are the President of the Republic of My Heart. I can see some women getting worked up about this song, because talk is cheap. To his credit the singer states his respect for women rights and he acknowledges their college degrees. Below is a video of the rallies in Lebanon asking to ban this song.
Here is a protest in Lebanon by feminists and dudes enraged by this song…not all women hate the song…some say it’s catchy and they have enjoyed it.
Bizarre Duos: Nancy and K’naan “Wave their Flags” to Promote the World Cup
Bizarre Duos: Nancy and K’naan “Wave their Flags” to Promote the World Cup
In the vein of such musical pairings as Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney in “Say, Say, Say”…and a Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney in “Ebony and Ivory,” this video feels like a bizarre crossings of genres and demographic audiences.
K’naan opens the video rapping as an awkward dance routine-leading, botched up plastic surgery mess Nancy Ajram is interspliced between footage of Arabs and Africans cheering for a Coca-Cola World Cup commercial music video. Why? i don’t understand…maybe some of you out there can shed some light:

Music Video, Trash of Arabia
Egyptian singer, Hani Alhabid (الهبدهانى) released a new racy music video, titled howa kida (هو كدة), the song is nothing short of silly. However, the music video wins the golden medal in the sleaziest Arabic music video of the year. It’s surely offensive that the music video uses women as props by further objectifying them. What’s more offensive is how the music video furthers the proof that human beings like the artist—for lack of a better word are also descendant of donkeys—not just monkeys. Whatever evolution done to make us adapt better, this music video is undoing all that by reversing the human race back to apes. Although the song uses common Egyptian folksy beat and popular instruments, the video utilizes a technique developed by small time West Coast rappers, cram as many naked females as the camera shot can accommodate.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the costs of producing this crappy music video were underwritten by plastic surgeon who gives away free bikinis with every set of you know what. Just As I thought Arabic music videos have finally evolved comes this turd to kill my buzz. Also can you make the Indian tune artificially incorporated in this sham of a song? This music video makes me want to throw up.

The Sexual Harassment Arabic Music Video
Can an Arabic music video possibly have everything a stereotypical male needs while breaking so many laws? Yes, it can!
This new music video by newcomer Mostafa Mahfouz is in a league of its own. The artist delivers a great break-up song, and despite it’s a break-up song, it comes across more uplifting than bitter with a soulful voice and just the right mixture of sadness and wisdom that hits all the right notes. But just because I want to hear more of him, doesn’t necessarily mean that I want to see more of him. The storyline for the music video is fairly simple: you’re a young Arab man running a gas station (imagine that) without much business and your employees are getting restless and demanding to get paid.
Oh, and did I mention that your girlfriend has just pulled up in her new convertible and is also asking “Where’s the dough, Habibi”? It also doesn’t help that you have a dirty, sweaty scruffy-looking guy with a gut working for you on the side of the road, holding up a sign that says: Buy one get one free! Sounds like you are caught between a rock and a fat place.
But no need to worry: according to this music video you have a solution. Go to a modeling agency, discriminate against the Indian looking models and go for the exotic Arab-Russian combo models. Take the ladies back to your gas station, have one of them wear a pair of “shorts” and assign her to the “hold the poster on the side of the street” post and watch the guys just start rolling in! You then take the rest of your girls and have them dance around the cars, the bikes, the customers and even yourself in a more than seductive manner.
Word in the form of text messages will then start to circulate about the freak show and the babes who are putting on the expo at the gas station. Congratulations! Now you’ve gone viral, because scantily clad women who dance mean more customers, more random dudes in business suites dancing in their cars, and more money in your pocket!
And, if your girlfriend comes back, you can make her jealous by all those hot babes dancing around you. Of course, you will also get to see some cool cars and badass Hell’s Angels types, but hey, it’s all part of the job as the Pimp boss that you literally are. I’m sure that somewhere a guy who was promised 72 virgins is sitting in a dark corner envious of Mahfouz and his entourage of gorgeous women. No, this music video was not released in 1920; this clip is brand spanking new.
Here’s why the music video is problematic: in approximately four minutes, the music video embarks on a parade of illegal workplace practices like ethnic and weight discrimination, creating a hostile work environment, employee safety concerns, business domestic disturbance, defamation, disturbing the peace, human trafficking, workers compensation issues, car assault, racketeering, artificial chest hair exposure . . . is there anything else I might have missed?
Also, please pay special attention to the break dancer and the man jumping from a convertible car wearing a hot pair of sneakers and the top-of-the-line phones found in this and many parts of the Arab world.

Nobody Loves Brad Garrett
Nobody Loves Brad Garrett
Brad Garrett who is known for his sitcom work, most notably on Everybody Loves Raymondignited a new racial controversy yesterday when he dropped some racial slurs at a paparazzo during a heated argument in the middle of the street. His words proof that bizarre things happen in real life not just in sitcoms. In the video Garrett can be seen instructing a paparazzo to wear turbans. This is weird on so many level, for starter the paparazzo acts like an Arab, but what do turbans have to do with paparazzi, or Hollywood for that matter? It’s the celebrities that usually use such things to hide their identity. Try Michel Jackson in a woman dress
To watch the video Video
Nawar Shora, ADC’s director of Legal Affairs has already spoken on the matter in an interview, according to contactmusic.com
Nawar W. Shora tells RadarOnline.com, “We’d be happy to reach out to Mr Garrett and his crew to help educate him about the Arab/Muslim/Sikh communities. Sinking down to racial and ethnic slurs is very disappointing and highlights the need for a greater understanding.
“There’s so many stereotypes there and we’re at a time and place now where we should be past that.”
Everybody may love Raymond, but Brad Garrett gets none of the love, not with this video.
FuNkY Arab?
FuNkY Arab?
Jad Choueiri, the Lebanese singer, dancer and music video director is back! This time he no longer intends to pollute the Arab music scene, this time the assault is global! Jad just released his much anticipated English song and music video in which he has collaborated with a number of American based talents.
I have heard about this song more than a year ago, and how Jad, the man standing behind the lunching of the career of a number of female artists of the like of Maria. Love him or hate him, he is a smart businessman (think Madonna) Jad has also become known for his logos; every artist he collaborates with gets a unique cool logo. His intention behind the song as he states is to make the Arabs cool again! To which I say, the road to hell is also paved with good intentions.
The video was released yesterday, and to be honest I watched the music video, and not sure what to think. The song is in English, there is so much going on and plenty of iconography and stereotypical Arab linked images like camel, hookah, belly dancers and more colors than a Cher concert. It’s hard to figure out or make out what you are looking at, but judging form the comments on Youtube, things are not looking too good. You decide….
E!Maam Skeet: Singing Saudi Superstar
E!Maam Skeet: Singing Saudi Superstar
A former imam of a Saudi mosque had a surprising announcement to his countrymen: he is releasing his first music album.
Abdullah Al-Skiti, the imam from the mosque of Alkhabra, is wiping the dust of his small town from off his shoes and going public with the declaration of his rather controversial ambitions. He’s currently living in Cairo where he is attending Cairo’s Music Institute so he can work on his talents as a composer, a singer and all the jazz that comes with studying music. Clearly, Al-Skiti isn’t joking around: he plans to return to Saudi Arabia and to open up a music institute to benefit Saudis—mainly Saudi men would be my guess.
He is currently collaborating with a number of Saudi poets and Egyptian musicians to releases his much anticipated and for the moment, rather nameless album. I use the word anticipated only because they will probably be burning copies of his work, like they burned the Dixie Chicks’ album in 2003.
A number of artists have actually donated their time and their talents to see this album become a reality. Going along with his work on his album, Al-Skiti will also be releasing a music video entitled “الفقر” (“Poverty”) that will be translated into English and French. His music video will be given to local, national and international television stations for free, a practice that will ensure that the artist remains poor—much like the title of his video clip.
Al-Skiti is fully aware of the controversy he generated along with the threat all the Internet forums pose to his work and his newly chosen profession. “I don’t like gimmicks, I am a frank person. I flat out told them I am making a music album, not a music album disguised as a religious one,” he was quoted as having said in a public statement made shortly after announcing his decision to make the music album. A common practice among Nasheed music (Religiously themed albums) is to sing, but without the use of any musical instruments.
It remains unclear whether this album will be any good, but one thing is for sure: While I would not expect to see Al-Skiti opening at a concert for Haifa anytime soon, this imam has some serious guts to take on much of the Saudi taboos and to then turn them their own heads.
And whoever said Saudi Arabia is boring, probably now is wiping their mouth after helping themselves into another slice of humble pie.

The Party Goes On…At Least for Some
The Party Goes On…At Least for Some
Ain’t no partying when Israel attacks. Due to the horrific situation in the Gaza Strip, many concerts have been canceled or at best scaled back. Both Jordan and Cairo canceled the biggest New Year Concerts. Dubai scaled back on the concerts, Abu Dhabi could care less. A number of facebook groups have called for the boycott of such concerts at this desperate time.
Egypt: Cancled Nawal Zoghbi (Lebanese), Rami Sabri (Egyptian), and Assi Hilani concerts that were to be broadcasted live on the National TV.
Bahrain: Kathem El Saher canceled his much awaited concert
Jordan: canceled two high profile concerts with Melham Barakat and Rolla Saad.
Lebanon, Syria: parties go one, but they banned journalist from going in. Turkey: Canceled a great deal of the festivity for the New Year in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
UAE: Abu Dhabi had a large concert with Shakira (Colombian), no changes to plans. Dubai, Amr Diab held his concerts as promised. His concert actually was canceled; word has it that he appealed Prince Moe for a permit, Diab said he will be donating his fee to the Palestinian Red Crescent. Amal Hijazi, the Lebanese starlet held her concert as well However, Nancy Ajram (Lebanese), Mohamd Abdo (Saudi) and Kathem El Saher (Iraqi)concerts were called off.
Algeria: Saber Riba’I, Tunisian super star has called off his Sheraton concert
Latifa and Asalah: both solid female Arabs singers canceled all their public engagements in soliderty with the residence of Gaza.
Jannat: a rising Moroccan singer that took the Arab world by storm, held her concert in the intercontinental hotel in Egypt. Assi Hilani and Dina Hayek participated in the same concert and ensured no photography.
Tamer Hosny: Egypt’s bad boy and hit maker held his concert as promised in the سميراميس hotel. His performance lasted 3 hours!
Many Arab Stars world are torn between supporting Gaza and fulfilling their contract to avoid paying hefty fees. Others may just care less. All I know is that we can praise those who took this symbolic step, as small as it is.
P.S. As expected when Arab get killed, Arabs singers write them songs. This latest song for the latest developments in Palestine by Egyptian mega Star, Tamer Hosny titled Mosh ‘Arif A’amil Haga “I do not know what to do”

Step Aside Britney, Meet the Melody Girl
Step Aside Britney, Meet the Melody Girl
The Arab world never disappoints when it comes to juicy celebrity stories. And now, we can add bizarre dresses. Julia Booby – say her last name ten times — a Lebanese model turned celebrity by starring in Melody TV, (the Egyptian “all music all the time” channel). Julia appeared in their TaHada El Malal (challenge boredom) ads blitz. I actually think some of those videos are funny and worth checking out — but none of them feature Booby.
Booby made her mark with the celebrity status event, a birthday bash. Julia took the occasion to take it back to nature with some birthday suitesque looks. As you can see from the pictures, she flaunted what her plastic surgeon and Mom gave her. Needless to say there has been outrage in the Middle East. And they think unchallenged boredom is the cause.
The story does not end there, Booby and her milky midgets starred in what could only be called a “makeout tape.” It is the Middle East, after all. She’s tongue wrestling some scuzzy-looking fella armed with a potty mouth, a Heinekin, bad haircut and a toothy grin.
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGYK_nIGrZ8]
But before you dismiss me as a typical Y picking on an X, I have Booby’s best interests (and assets) in mind. Seriously though, she has a demographic and insulting the demographic by showing too much cleave and online makeout sessions is not a smart business practice.
This also highlights the transformation that is sweeping the Middle East in terms of objectifying women and over-sexualizing entertainment. But some might see this as an overdue change based on the hope that Booby and her her boobies might actually help pacify the Middle East. The more succulent version of the Bush agenda. Booby’s are, after all, the kinds of sand bags we’d rather see in the Middle East (for you ‘40 Year Old Virgin’ fans).
