Lebanon Arrests Singer Zeid Hamdan

By Will from KABOBfest

Reports from Twitter and other social media are coming in that the singer in this video, Zeid Hamdan, was arrested because of this one year-old music video (the song is older apparently). While it does name Lebanon’s president explicitly, lists common grievances against the state, the overall tenor is quite pacifist. The charge is apparently “defamation,” and the singer is calling out for people to mobilize in his defense.

This follows a state campaign against Facebook users who criticized the Lebanese president.

People should contact the embassy today to demand Zeid Hamdan’s release and that the government drop any charges stemming from this harmless song.

Here is the USA embassy’s info:

editor note: While it's true Lebanon has a lot more freedom than most Arab country, but don't try to test that freedom. It's ok to push the envelop with your hair style and your skinny shorts, but do not try to develop a sense of political humor. I love the song and its fresh style it makes me thing I am in Flatbush, Brooklyn New York where the Caribbean falvors are all over the place. People like Zeid should be sponsored and promoted not arrested and humiliated.

Will The Real Assi Hallani Stand up?

Here's how real singers sound like, by real I mean those voices that established their fame prior to the age of the internet, and the age of reality shows. They knew they could sing, they fought for it and gave us some of the best Arabic songs that will be around for some time.

Assi took this opportunity in an interview to remind us why he is the beloved star he is. There are no computers, no music, just his voice and a mic unplugged performing this famous song of his about his old flaming love and about leaving and coming back to visit those old places.

If this voice does not move you, then maybe you should be doing something else with your time.

Marwan Khoury Vs. Elissa You Win

She is the hottest romance songs singer where her emotions are written all over her songs. He is the best composer for sweet romantic songs with a voice of an angel. Together they made some of the most beautiful songs, of course Elissa sings and Marwan composes--even thought he is an acclimated singer.

Will they collaborate again? It seems some sources are suggesting Marwan Khoury is not rushing to work again with Elissa. It was reported that he has said, he is working on an earth shattering big song.

Whatever happens next, it important we like this duo and like to see them work together once again. Check out this clip where the singers perform the same song, you be the judge. It's hard to compare, those are some of the most sensitive voices that know how to channel their sentiments.

Mohammed Mohie, Amazing Vocals, Not Looks

While on the subject of the 90s stars, I cannot skip Mohammed Mohie, this Egyptian singer with the voice that can bring you to tears any moment it wishes. Mohie is a singer that has a build a great reputations for himself as a singer who sing well in concerts and life. He is not a big media personality, he doe snot talk too much and he does not get into the gossips business.

Singers should be able to sing, and that what Mohie does, nothing much nothing less. He is not the prettiest boy in the pack so he is that voice that all the guys know well and have listened to when they needed to be alone.

So it should be no surprise that many filmmakers in Egypt tab this singer to do the themes songs for their films. He captures a shade of sorrow that few can recreate, but most understand and relate too. Mohie has been brought to the business by producer Nasr Mahrous who seems to attack the voices that can sing and cares less about the business side of things. Like Mohie and Bahaa Soltan.

Leh Ya Donia? Asked Two Egyptian Pop Dudes

Mohammed Mounir is still the rocker he was born to be, Khaled Aggag is facing jail over tax evasion charges. They were an odd couple but producer Nasr Mahrous brought them together in this first two make duet offering wisdom and commentary on life and people.

This is the product of the late 90s when pop was king, so that song hit is big becasue those two stars were that guys who have brought it. They look like they are two buddies who really wanted to work together and came this song as a result of this collaboration.

While Mounir is the bigger name and the better talent here, Khaled Aggaf brought something with his persona and recognizable voice. Make no mistake this is not a love song, it's about people wanting to change their past and step over their loved ones, and then blame it on life.

George Tahhan "Whisper" 2011 Album

making an album with more than 10 tracks requires a miracle, but when you cross that number, people know that you either take your work seriously or that you want to test the water of what works for you.

It's not new to George Tahhan, the sensitive and helpless romantic who is also a serious musician. His vocals can be compared with a number of Lebanon's A list singers of the likes of Wael Jassar, Ziad Barjy and Adam. A style that has made Fadel Shaker famous.

So if you are looking for a fresh voice that packs as much emotions as legally permitted then you ought to check George and his new album Whispers. Not only does he make sense and communicate those hard to express emotions, but he has some real music in his songs, not that computer generated demos. His first track in this album is written for country and one's love.
