Egypt Big Winners/Losers 2011 Albums Sales

  1. Hatem Fahmy released a pop album this summer days after Tamer Hosny released his album. The stark difference in sales is hard to miss. Hatem Fahmy Album sold more than 120 thousand copies in the first two weeks. Hatem is not a big name, but he has his fans and it seems they are willing to pay for his music.
  2. Tamer Hosny sold 30 thousand copies, with all the money he spent in marketing his album and the media buzz, no one is buying the album. Many called for boycott, and it seems that money cannot buy the love of the people. Too bad he used to be the best selling artist.
  3. Bahaa Sultan, so far selling more than 150,000 copies and still counting, a record breaking sales for this awesome artist
  4. Ramy Gamal, released two months ago his album sold 80 thousand records
  5. Tamer Ashour sold 50 thousand copies, it was released during the month of February 2011
  6. Mohammad Adawyah released his album back in December 2010 sold 60 thousand copies
  7. Khaled Agag sold 25 thousand records.
  8. Other non Egyptian singers have failed to sell big in Egypt. Kathem Al Saher and Najwa Karam did not sell more than 10 thousand records combined.
While on the subject of sales, due to the recession and the Arab spring, Arab singers have lowered their fees for their concerts. Take for example, Amr Diab fee is @ 60,000 dollars compared with $200,000 in 2010. Sherine Abdel Wahab used to charge $90,000 per concert, now she settles for $20,000. Same fee is charged by Nancy Ajram. Nicole Saba now charges $8,000 per concert not what she used to charge $20,000. Those fees are charged in private parties.
