Emenike still pending for Nigeria

Nigeria are expected to make an official statement on the availability of their striker and leading scorer, Emmanuel Emenike later on Saturday ahead of the Afcon final.

Emenike, 25, is joint-leading scorer at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations with Ghana's Wakaso Mubarak on four goals and is a doubt to play in Sunday's final against Burkina Faso.

The striker, who has scored against Burkina Faso, Zambia, Cote d'Ivoire and Mali in this tournament, missed Nigeria's training sessions on Thursday and Friday.

Reports on Saturday suggested that the CSKA Moscow man will miss the Afcon final after suffering a hamstring injury in Nigeria's semifinal win over Mali.

However, the Nigerian contingent is yet to reveal if the striker's present health condition but a statement is expected from the team's camp in Johannesburg on Saturday.

"An official statement will be made later today (Saturday)," spokesman of the Nigerian squad, Ben Alaiya told supersport.com on Saturday morning.

Nigeria will also hold a pre-match press conference at the National Stadium, otherwise known as Soccer City, in Johannesburg on Saturday before the squad's training session.
