Shadya Supports The Revolution Against Her Wishes

Shadya, the Egyptian legendary singer turned actress has quit singing more than 25 years ago. But the people have never quit her. She has always been the popular singer that not two people can disagree on. She was what Nancy Ajram is now, but decades earlier. Shadya still loved in Egypt with her family and her songs give you a mix of emotions.

Shadya has sang for her son, her mom, her loved one, but in the wake of the January 25th protest throughout Egypt, the one song that has became the anthem of all those protesters, is a song of hers about how awesome Egypt is. This is a 30 year old song, that has become a cult of its own.

Here's where it gets messy, Shadya actually did not support the protesters and called on them to go home. But no one seems to have used that against her, she is untouchable. Better yet, her song Ya Habibty Ya Masir took on a new life and has a new meaning as the young protesters would blast this song via the speakers to rally the protesters. The line where she says Ya Habibty Ya Masir is perhaps the most patriotic yet real line in the history of Arabic songs.

Ever since Mubarak stepped down Shadya changed her mind and declared her support to the youth and their demand.
