God bless the Palestinians, life sucks in over there and the Israelis are making their life miserable, but that does not mean that life has to suck. Palestinians love to party at weddings, it's about the only time they get to celebrate, enjoy themselves and feel good.
So the old school Palestinians made a show out of the asking of a bride's hand in marriage. There is the right way to do it. Here is a clip of the process. It's actually life a fun negotiation, hospitality and politics. Notice the part of the dowry negotiations. This is theatrical, but it has some truth to it. They get to talk about all the details like how many cabs and buses they will use to transport people and party goers.
