Y.A.S. And SoapKills Kills Arabic Musical Mediocrity

For most casual Arab listeners who link Lebanon to talents of the likes of Haifa Wahbe and Nancy Ajram, there are those who want the real deal. For those ones, Lebanon is also the stop. There are women who actually make music, not songs. Those are trend sitters like Soapkills.

There once was a little known band that was too important to let spin out of control, cult bands scary some people in the area, so bands like SoapKills was disbanded. The band has been around since 1997, and released its last album in 2005. When SoapKills not too busy challenging mediocre Arab musicians who rip Turkish and Greek tunes, they made some of the best original, fresh Arabic music around. Perhaps most intriguing about this band is their crossover appeal as their music fits well in the Western musical style, that's why it's no surprise that they have teamed up with Mirwais, a former Madona producer--in Paris and went one to launch Yasmine Hamdan's next big move--Y.A.S.
