Wadih El Safi, The Voice to Unite Lebanon

Wadee El Safi is an Arabian legend, a Lebanese icon who is responsible for enriching the Arabic music archive for more than 70 years. In other words, Wadee is one of the few things my grandpa, my dad and I have in common. We can all sit next to the radio and enjoy those golden and timeless hits from the old man who is a pioneer.

Wadih is a student of music who studied it first, but before he won a music competition at age 17. Then he started composing music and singing expressing his love to the traditional melodies. Little know fact about Wadih that he lived in Brazil for three years before going back to Lebanon.

Wadee's style ranges from all Lebanese style, to Tarab style to light Egyptian style songs that have been memorized by generations. Most Arabs even thought who do not listen to music know this guy and have a lot of respect for him and his status. Wadee is a hit maker and his songs are liked my the masses. He can make you cry, he can make you love your country and he can make you fall in love.

His voice is very strong, his vocals are unique and distinct his Mawal style never goes out of style. His living today and he is still rocking the music scene and making waves, he is a bit old now and requires a chair when he performs. He is 90 years old this year a big man comes from a small town and change the scene of Arabic music.

Listen to a montage of his library and let your ears do the work, if you like a song go and find it, you will find a good number of his songs in this clip of the essential hits in a span of 60 years.
