Irish project manager killed in Nigeria

An Irish expatriate, Mr. Robin Grey, working with PW Construction Company and handling the Wukari-Takum Road in Nigeria’s Taraba State has been shot dead by gunmen suspected to be armed robbers.

He was killed on the same road, the reconstruction of which he was supervising.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Amos Olaoye(DSP), the incident occurred at about 5:30pm on Thursday when Police on patrol from the Takum Division found the victim along with his driver lying in the pool of their own blood.

The PPRO disclosed that Mr. Grey who was recently posted to Taraba as the Project Manager of the Construction company, was traveling in an official Hilux Van when he along with the driver was attacked by the unidentified gunmen. The PPRO said the police Patrol team rushed the victims to a hospital in Takum but the Grey died while receiving treatment.

The PPRO however said the driver was responding to treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

Olaoye disclosed that the Command has deployed more men to the area with a view to tracking down the gunmen.

Also confirming the incident, the Regional Manager of PW, Mr. John Kon said that late Grey was recently posted to the state from Lagos on a relief assignment.

Sources told P.M. News that the Company, in 2007, declined to accept the contract for the construction of the Takum-Wukari road due to insecurity in the area but later got assurance of their safety of their personnel by the State Government.
