Nigerian Goalkeeper Enyeama Racially Abused In Israel

The Israel Federation, in association with the England FA runs a campaign in the Israeli Premier League – Let’s Kick Racism Out of Football.

But, despite the campaign, Nigeria’s goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama suffered racist abuse from rival supporters of Maccabi Haifa, while making his league debut on Monday for The Yellows, Israeli website one.co.il has reported.

Observers that witnessed the match reported that they heard racist chants directed at Enyeama, who is on a season – long loan from Lille FC of France.

FIFA football’s governing body, frowns at all forms of discrimination in football, and this is stated in Article 3 of the FIFA Statutes:

”Discrimination of any kind against a country, private person or group of people on account of ethnic origin, gender, language, religion, politics or any other reason is strictly prohibited and punishable by suspension or expulsion.”

Enyeama lasted the entire duration of the game in Maccabi Tel Aviv’s 2-1 win over Maccabi Haifa.

Coincidentally, the 29 – year – old’s last game in Israel on May 14, 2011 was against his current employer Maccabi Tel Aviv.
