Nuri Sahin has agreed a one-year loan move to Arsenal, according to reports in Germany.
German media claims that the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder has completed his medical at Arsenal with an announcement expected from the Gunners in the next 24-hours. Sahin could now be included in the squad for the trip to Stoke City on Sunday.
Liverpool and north London rivals Tottenham have been linked with the 23-year-old Turkish international but the lure of working with Arsène Wenger and playing in the Champions League has convinced Sahin to choose the Gunners.
Sahin was a key member of the Dortmund squad that won the Bundesliga title in the 2010-11 season but has struggled to find form and playing time at Real Madrid since his €10 million move in 2011.
Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho confirmed yesterday that the Spanish giants have received a number of offers for Sahin with the former Chelsea manager keen for the midfielder to make a temporary move to the Premier League.
Mourinho told a press conference: "The Premier League is a good place for players to pick up certain characteristics which he does not have.
"It is all the same to me, though, which club he goes to. I just hope that it happens soon for him, as it is best for him. Liverpool, Arsenal or Spurs - I have no preference."
Arsenal have lost Robin van Persie and Alex Song this summer but have signed Lukas Podolski, Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud.
Wenger recently revealed a desire to sign a defender and a midfielder (believed to be Sahin) this transfer window.
“We are looking to bring one more midfielder in of course, and maybe one defender as well because we still feel we are short in some positions,” he told Arsenal's official website.
