This Generation Poet, Mahmoud Abdullah

Among Egyptian lyricists, one particular young talent, Mahmoud Abdullah. He is new to the scene, met few people around through a friend and then he met Hamid El Shari, a producer who is always scouting new lyrics. He says it's about networking. First a friend introduces him to another and so it goes. I like young talented, they are often hungry for work and fame.

I like his bit about how he writes for singers and composers through Facebook, this is true because. He does also say, it's time consuming. He picks his words and poetry from incidents and situations that happens to him. That does keep his lyrics relevant and not too smart. See his interview

Lagos experienced a night of  fun  on Monday 24th December 2012, as the maiden edition of Nigeria’s classical dance event, Monalisa Chinda’s “Project Help: A Dance for Life”,took centre stage at the Oriental Hotels, Victoria Island.

The well attended event, organized and produced by Monalisacode Productions, saw in attendance celebrities and top personalities including Stephanie Okereke, Charles Novia, Tonye Cole, Rukky Sanda,  Kingsley Ogoro, Chioma Chukwuma, Halima Abubakar, Zik Zulu Okafor and Saeon among others.

Kidnappers Of Nkiru Sylvanus Arrested

Following the kidnap of Nollywood actress and special assistant to governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state on public affairs, Nkiru Sylvanus, in Owerri on December 16, 2012 and her subsequent release after the sum of N8 million was reportedly paid as ransom, the Imo State Police Command made good its promise to fish out the perpetrators as it paraded four suspects in connection with the crime on Monday at its headquarters in Owerri.

Videos Of New Year 2013 Concerts In Beirut

The winner of the Voice, Mourad Bourky had his first concert and he was the fireworks of the night, he performed next to Assi Hallani. Together they appeared in Lebanon.

The new year is the biggest night for people who like music and enjoy drinking. Ragheb Alama also had his concert that night--most stars have more than one engagement on this night. Ragheb danced with the ladies on the stage. Happy New Year to all those people out there, I know  was optimistic for 2012, but I do not feel the same way about 2013....last year we had the least number of albums released.

Dubai and Beirut had the most fun, not so much in Cairo, though there have been few concerts here and there on a small scale and little publicity. I know each one of those artists wished for a better new year speaking of politics and change. Those are videos shot from the audience vantage point and they are not the best quality.

I Don't Believe The News About #Syria, I Believe In Wafeek Habib

Syrian songs are making a strong comeback, young people love them because they are very upbeat, manly and pleasant to the ear. Among Syria's major players is new comer Wafeek Habib, a guy who knows how to make any party awesome. He starts off with a Mawal--lyric with minimal music.
Unlike the Lebanese style, the Syrian style is a lot closer to the Iraqi dialect. Which to say, it's manly.

Syrian pop has never took its chance until 2008, when those Syrian soap operas started marketing it and the stars on their shows. Syria makes good music, but pop has never been their thing really. Wafeek and few other voices are changing that. Passionate lyrics, dance music, and a feel good tracks make all the difference. Those stars have travled to places like Algeria to perform their songs to new laces.

Too bad, Syria has seen some better days, I do not trust the news but if Wafeek was delivering the news it might be something I would watch.

14 Years Later, Mona Abdel Ghany Returns

In my book and form generation, she was the first pop star we have come to known, her light dances and high sense of fashion at the time, told us it's fun to be a grownup. We likes her song, her personality and her music. Mona Abdel Ghani, was not something you would miss if you had a TV set. She has a lot of good songs, and her cassettes were top sellers.

Yet 14 years ago, she quit the music industry. But she returns this time for a good virtue album about family, friendship and all the public announcements one can make. But the music and the lyrics are not left to new comers. Mona is collaboration with the likes of Bahaa Aldeen (Lyrics) Mohamed and Waleed Saad for the music.

The album will also have national songs for Egypt. There will be 10 tracks and no release date so far. Mona became a pop star in the 80s by joining a band that has been known as Al Asdeqaa "The Friends , music by Ammar El Sariey. They released two band albums before going solo. I know I am curious to hear this album.
