"Thankful" ( Thursday) Question: Where Are The Hymns?

Why have we replace our hymns with contemporary music? Who said it was not working?
Hymns can teach us the art of meditation on scripture this an art we desperately need to relearn. Hymns help us take a theme and turn it over; they let us gaze on it from different angles. Hymns remind us that we can only approach God through the Blood of Jesus. The idea that we only approach God as Christian through the Blood of Christ is too rarely mentioned in most music today. We need deeper, richer and longer looks at the Cross and all that it means. For every one look you take at your sin, take ten looks at the Cross! Hymns focus us on God's promises. We need to recall " The Old Rugged Cross " that is a powerful hymn.

What are some of your favorite Hymns? My favorite hymn is "Because He Lives" God sent His Son they call Him Jesus He came to love heal and forgive He lived and died to buy my pardon an empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives How sweet to hold a new born baby and feel the pride and joy He gives but greater still the calm assurance this child can face uncertain days because He lives and then one day I'll cross the river I'll fight life's final war with pain and then as death gives way to victory I'll see the lights of glory and I'll know He lives.
