Ahmed Mekky Salutes Tahrir Square Protesters

Ahmed Mekky the Egyptian actor turned rapper has been missing throughout the demonstrations ordeal. The likable, charismatic funny man has never shied away from the issue of the today. He was all over the news during the Egypt Algeria soccer game. I think Ahmed is not lacking in opinions. He has never had a problem speaking his mind both in his life and on screen.

But since Ahemd has a parent of Algerian heritage, that makes it hard for him to express his thoughts becasue his linage will be used against him by some critics. Those critics forget that Algeria is just another awesome Arab country. But Ahmed has now strikes with force. By releasing a rap song that features Mohamed Mohsen to celebrate the protesters and defend them from all the name calling.

This song is the first of its kind to actually speaks about the virtues of the protesters as being educated, classy, driven by dignity and and respectful of women unlike what most critics claims. It does the people of Egypt proud, it highlights the fact that when the Muslim pray the Christin got his back, when the Christian prays, the Muslim watches their back. He pains an idealistic picture of Tahrir Square that has turned into an Utopia.

I think this is a good choice in lyrics and I am sure it will be embraced by the protesters and the other young people who are fans of Ahmed Mekky but have not taken sides yet.
